Originally conceived in the studio as On the House, Brine is an exercise in transforming an existing house while retaining its memory and character.
The original walls form the foundation of the intervention, preserved as the primary architectural narrative. A new envelope of glass blocks wraps around the existing structure, creating a permeable layer that mediates between the old house and its surroundings.

The original walls form the foundation of the intervention, preserved as the primary architectural narrative. A new envelope of glass blocks wraps around the existing structure, creating a permeable layer that mediates between the old house and its surroundings.
The envelope evolved through a process of iteration, structural negotiation, prototyping, and detailing. Developed in close collaboration with B.L. Manjunath and prototyped with Studio Vinton, the system was refined in response to light, structure, materiality, and constructability.
Rather than replacing the existing, the intervention works around it,revealing the old walls through the translucent skin while introducing a new layer of light and enclosure.
